BT MyDonateMyDonate is a not-for-profit, online fundraising service for UK charities from BT. This service provides a secure, easy-to-use way for millions of people to raise money for their favourite charity.

BT invests at least 1% of its corporate pre-tax profits in society each year.

At the end of March 2013, BT’s investment in society amounted to just over £27m over the previous 12 months – a combination of direct funding and in-kind support. This equates to 1.12% of our pre-tax profits.

Providing services such as MyDonate makes good use of our technology and communications expertise.

Nelson Mandela, hero and former president of South Africa, dies at 95

A sombre South African President Jacob Zuma announced Mandela’s death in a television address.

“Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father. Although we knew that this day would come, nothing can diminish our sense of a profound and enduring loss,” Zuma said.

“His tireless struggle for freedom earned him the respect of the world. His humility, his compassion and his humanity earned him their love.” Zuma said he has ordered all flags in South Africa to be lowered to half-mast, where they will remain until after what will be a state funeral.

Charities attack treatment delays for mental health patients

Sectioned - mental healthMore than one in 10 people with mental health problems are waiting for longer than a year before receiving talking treatments and more than half are waiting longer than three months, mental health charities and practitioners have found.

The We Need to Talk Coalition said that delays and a lack of choice were having a devastating effect on people who were not getting the right treatment, while others were being driven to pay for private treatment.

It said the NHS should offer a full range of evidence-based psychological therapies to all who need them within 28 days of requesting a referral. Official figures published last month showed that more than 80,000 of the 241,250 patients referred by GPs and other clinicians to talking therapies in the second quarter of this year waited more than 28 days to receive treatment.
